"My sister lives in Colorado and wanted me to come hang out for a while. I told her I’d need a cool place to stay and an amazing girl. By the next day she’d found me both, so off I went for a month.
Viv was turning 14 when we made the zine. We shot it in Boulder where she had recently moved from LA. Her parents got her a rescue dog as a bribe so she wouldn’t be as sad leaving her best friend. She was obsessed with skating and playing guitar, and had a strong aversion to scooter kids. We hung out mostly after school and before dinner.
One week I had to wander around on my own shooting landscapes and going to thrift stores while Viv recovered from having her wisdom teeth out. Next time maybe we’ll make a book." - Valerie Phillips
