This book aims to take a look at the migrations, internal to the nation and forced by disparate events, that have occurred over the years and that have created uninhabited spaces.
It starts from a distant past with the forced relocation of the Ainu populations of Hokkaido, including the areas of Tokyo and Sapporo where the "Development Commission", heavily involved in the relocations, has operated.

Then the areas abandoned by the mining industry are taken into consideration, such as the villages that served the Ashio copper mines on the Watarasegawa river, to arrive at a more recent past with the exclusion zone due to the accident at the Fukushima plant in the dramatic events of 2011 to the contemporary Imperial Palace, where residing is excluded.

This attempt to find strong homogeneity between these vastly different spaces in origin, history, and time, the Difficult-to-Return Zone around Fukushima reactor and the "Imperial Palace" forms another axis of this book.
