Tori no Uta - El Cant dels Ocells | Nobuyuki Takahashi | Temporary Contemporary 2023
This book is brand new!
"Nobuyuki Takahashi is known as a "water photographer" for his work on the Niyodo River and other rivers. This book contains unpublished works that give a glimpse into his origins. Before he began his career as a photographer, he spent three years studying abroad as an honorary student at a university in Spain from 1969 to 1972, and when he returned to Spain in 1977. These are black-and-white works taken in Zaragoza, Barcelona, Pamplona, Soria, and other cities.
The hundreds of shots that were lost in the distant memory have woken up from a long slumber, and unfold before our eyes like a film, depicting the past of Spain and telling us the nameless and precious stories of its people.
The setting is Spain under a dictatorship 30 years after the fierce civil war. The economy has fallen into a deep recession, society is exhausted, strict censorship of speech is imposed on the people, local autonomy is denied, and in places like Catalonia and the Basque Country, it is even forbidden to use the native languages of ethnic groups in public. Takahashi Nobuyuki captures the gloomy atmosphere of the times, the joy of youth that never fades, the simple demeanor of people, the lively expressions of children, and the casual scenes on street corners with ease.
More than 50 years have passed since the shooting in Spain. In this time of great turmoil in the world, this book will bring us a sense of the irreplaceable everyday life and deep reality of life that is often lost in the vortex of saturated information." - Publisher's statement
